THE STORY OF ARTIFICIAL SILK some day make boards by a continuous process, as we are now making paper and glass ? Why not ARTIFICIAL TIN for containers ? There is a shortage of tin. Experts say that the tin mines may be exhausted in 20 years. The price may soon rise to £500 a ton. What shall we do in 1950 unless we can find a way to make this marvellous pulp into sheets that can be used in the place of tin ? As you can see, Artificial Silk has opened up the way to a new industrial world. Dozens of other industries will spring up out of it. There will be scores of specialty companies. There will be all manner of novelties— entirely new commodities. The whole world of manufacturing will have to adapt itself to this new raw material that has come into being in the last 10 years. In the Artificial Silk trade there will be openings for skill and inventiveness. There will be a need for better salesmanship, as competition will be keener. There was an over-production in 1926. This may happen again unless the Artificial Silk companies learn to appreciate the value of skilled Sales Managers. 118
