INTRODUCTION. 17 three kingdoms is entrusted to a Chief Registrar, who has Assistant-Registrars in England, Ireland, and Scotland. With the approval of the Trea sury, he is authorized to prepare and circulate model forms of accounts, balance-sheets, and valu ations, and to collect and publish statistics. He may circulate, either generally or in any particu lar district, information on the statistics of life and sickness, and the application thereof to the business of Friendly Societies, and other informa tion useful to persons interested in societies capa ble of registration. 29. The societies affected by the Act are de scribed under five denominations :— 1. Friendly Societies. 2. Cattle Insurance Societies. 3. Benevolent Societies. 4. Working Men’s Clubs. 5. Specially authorized Societies. 30. The purposes for which a Friendly Society may be formed are :— 1. Relief in sickness, or other infirmity, in- old age, widowhood, or orphanhood. 2. Payments on birth or death. 3. Payments in distress, to seekers for em ployment, and in case of shipwreck or damage at sea. 4. Endowments. 5. Insurance of tools against fire. 31. Societies having these purposes may adopt any of the following varieties of organization :— 1. As societies having branches. 2. As societies having collectors.
