Conditioning House. A new building is to be erected in the near future. The 
size of the new building will be about one-fifth the size of the Imperial Con- 
ditioning House. 
Sericultural Colleges 
There are three sericultural colleges under the direct control of the Gov- 
ernment, one in Tokyo, one in Kyoto and one in Uyeda. 
Those who finish the courses in the middle schools may enter these col- 
leges and they are instructed there in the principles and techniques of the seri- 
cultural and reeling industry for three years. The graduates from these col- 
leges become high class experts and represent the brain power for developing 
the industry. 
Sericultural Schools 
There are many sericultural schools of middle school grade established 
either by the prefectures or by the counties. Here young boys coming out 
of the primary schools are instructed for three to four years upon the prin- 
ciples and technique of sericulture and of raw silk reeling.

The Section of Sericulture and Raw Silk belongs to the Bureau of Agri- 
culture in the Department of Agriculture and Forestry. This is the chief central 
office of administration in regard to sericulture and the raw silk industry of 
Japan. Its function is to see that the many regulations and laws concerning 
sericulture are put in force, to give governmental encouragement to the indus- 
try and to take any necessary administrative step for the promotion of the 
industry. 
Sericultural Inspection Offices 
According to the Sericultural Act, every prefecture raising silkworms 
must have such an office, where all local silkworm eggs are to be inspected. 
The prevention of silkworm diseases and the legal supervision of the sale of 
young mulberry-trees and cocoons are other functions of these offices. 
Prefectural Sericultural Experimental Station 
There are fifty prefectural sericultural experimental stations which corre- 
spond to the Imperial Sericultural Experiment Station of the Central Govern- 
ment. It receives superior breeding eggs from the Central Station to propa- 
gate and distribute them in its own district. Some kinds of research work 
and instruction courses, and the giving of technical advice at the farm or mill 
are also important features of the business of these offices.
