11. Prices. 
Regarding the prices in the electrical industry of the various 
countries, general data are given in the form of indices, in 
Sections 2 and 3. 
As regards prices, it should be noted that by more economi- 
cal use of materials, and improved methods of manufacture, 
in many branches prices as compared with efficiency have 
actually been reduced. A typical instance is afforded by in- 
candescent lamps, the prices of which have been reduced to 
two thirds of the pre-war prices. 
This reduction in prices is counteracted in many countries 
by the exorbitant customs dues, through which the inland 
prices are artificially maintained at a high level.
