THE STORY OF ARTIFICIAL SILK

The world market has been made on
Viscose silks and they will probably remain
the most popular, on account of their strength
and cheapness. Acetate silks are more like
natural silk. They are of finer quality, but
for several reasons they are not likely to
displace Viscose.

Artificial Silk filaments can now be made
as fine as the filament that is spun by a silkworm
 ,,5, of an inch in diameter. They are
not yet as strong. They have from 30 to
40 per cent. as much strength as real silk.
They have from 60 to 80 per cent. as much
strength as cotton. Every year they are
being made stronger. It is only a matter
of time until they can be made fully as strong
as cotton and more than 75 per cent. as strong
as silk.

Already they have what is called ‘‘ Scroop **
—the squeaky feel or rustle of real silk,
Women prefer this rustle. It is a sign of
quality. And the best Artificial Silk garments
possess it.
