WEEKLY EARNINGS
The June pay period which was chosen for study proved to be a
nearly normal period in the hosiery industry for the year. The figures
on weekly earnings as presented in this study, therefore, represent an
average week’s earnings for men and women in the hosiery industry
in 1928.

Weekly earnings of all workers
The earnings of both men and women were higher in the full-fashioned
 than in the seamless hosiery industry. In the full-fashioned
hosiery industry a little more than one-half of the men and less than
one-fifth of the women had weekly earnings of $30 or more. In the
same industry 27 per cent of the men and 47 per cent of the women
sarned less than $20 a week. In the seamless hosiery industry 40 per
cent of the men earned $30 or more and 34 per cent earned less than
$20. Only one per cent of the women in the seamless hosiery industry
earned as much as $30 a week and 34 per cent earned less than $10
(Chart 7). Men’s median weekly earnings of $32.49 in the fullfashioned
 hosiery industry were nearly $12 higher than the median
earnings for women in the same industry. In the seamless hosiery
industry men’s median earnings of $25.99 were nearly $14 higher
than the women’s (Table 14).
