While, in order to preserve comparability with the English figures, the 
bulk of the statistics contained in the present volume refer to October, 1905, a 
separate section has been inserted, giving the results of supplementary inquiries 
as to the movement of wages and prices since that date in certain towns. 
I should add that the corresponding enquiry with regard to French towns 
is now practically complete, and the results will be ready for publication in a 
few months time.
