GERMANY.
BAMBERG.

(From United States Consul Bardel, Bamberg, Germany.)
There is no use for macaroni wheat in this consular district,
4 unless it can be worked into flour for other purposes than the making
) of macaroni. My informant on this subject, Mr. L. G. Waeger, of
this city, the most prominent wheat and flour merchant in Bamberg,
would like to have samples and quotations sent to him, since some
i of the millers he consulted on the subject are under the impression
| that this macaroni wheat could be utilized successfully for other
purposes. If anyone wishes to comply with Mr. Waeger’s desire, I
will very gladly turn over to him whatever samples may be sent.

W. BarbpEL, Consul.

The milling establishments in this district, few in number, handle
bakers’ wheat only. Dealers keeping large stocks of various kinds
of flour and wheat to supply the retailers eventually with small
quantities of certain grades wanted do not exist here.
Flour and wheat dealers are buying South Russian and Alsatian
wheat in quantities of 500 sacks of roo kilograms (220 pounds), while
American wheat can not be obtained in quantities less than 2,000
sacks of the same weight. For this reason dealers and brokers are
of the opinion that it would be difficult to introduce American macaroni
wheat—an article not sufficiently known in this district—unless
it could be tried and bought in smaller lots.
There is but one macaroni factory in the Province of Westphalia.
In southern Germany, Baden and Alsace, they are more numerous.

THEODORE J. BLUTHARDT,
BARMEN, GERMANY, October 24, 1903. Consul.

BERLIN.
(From United States Consul-General Mason, Berlin, Germany.)
There are five manufacturers of edible pastes (macaroni, noodles,
etc.) in the consular district of Berlin, all of whom at present
derive most of their supply of macaroni wheat from the importers
at Hamburg. They are as follows:
Eugen Millauer & Co., Landsberg a. d. Warthe.
= Max Heininger, Neue Weissensee.
A Berliner Teigwaaren Fabrik, 18 Kraut Strasse, Berlin.
J. Meineke, 83 Belle Alliance Strasse, Berlin.
Robert Bandely, 18 Tempelhofer Ufer, Berlin.
