for macaroni wheat, the macaroni industry being quite unimportant
in the Kingdom of Bavaria. The only establishment of any
account in this consular district manufacturing groats out of such hard
wheat is the firm Koch & Gellerthaler, in Baiersdorf, near Nuremberg.

the city of Mannheim. The latter city, especially, is a large grain
center which supplies southern Germany with foreign grain. American
grain, for instance, is shipped on the River Rhine as far as
Mannheim and thence carried by rail to its destination in southern
Germany.
I was told that the following firms: Wesermiihlen Aktiengesellschaft,
Hameln, Westphalia; Hildebrand & Sohne, Weinheim, Hessen ;
and H.-Banse, Maisdorf, Hessen—are all leading firms in Germany
for the manufacture of groats out of hard wheat

doubtedly could become large purchasers of American macaroni

, and that they unwheat.

Being located in the more northern part of Germany, they
