CADIZ.
United States Consul R. M. Bartleman, of Cadiz, Spain, reports,
October 16, 1903, that the material for ‘‘pastas” made in Cadiz is
brought from Barcelona, where several large factories exist, and where
some of the American macaroni wheat might find a market.

CARTHAGENA.
United States Consul Joseph Bowron, of Carthagena, Spain,
reporting October 15, 1903, says:
There is one macaroni factory in Carthagena and, perhaps, two
or three additional and smaller ones throughout the Province. Iam
informed that wheat flour does not enter into the macaroni manufactured
here, but that it is made from potato fecula imported mostly
from Holland and Belgium. I do not think, therefore, that there is
any opening in this district for the sale of macaroni wheat.

CORUNNA.
(From United States Consul Harmony, Corunna, Spain.)
The wheat used in this district in the manufacture of macaroni
and other food products comes from Andalusia or is imported from
the Black Sea via Barcelona.
The quantity consumed amounts to about 264,000 pounds per
annum, at an average price of 43 pesetas per 100 kilograms ($6.45
per 220 pounds).
There are two macaroni-milling establishments in Corunna, those
of D. Manuel Sanjurjo and D. Francisco Leal.
Owing to the lack of direct means of communication with the
United States, American products, petroleum and lumber excepted,
reach this region via England and Germany.
Jurio Harmony, Consul.
CORUNNA, SPAIN, October 26, 1903.

MADRID.
(From United States Vice-C “onsul Danziger, Madrid, Spain.)
I have found several merchants who would buy American wheat
for macaroni and other purposes if the price could be made suitable
to compete with the Russian wheat. Under such conditions about

1,000,000 bushels might be sold here.
If I could be informed under what conditions American wheat

could be put on the market in Spain, say, f. 0. b. Barcelona or Bilbao,
 I might secure favorable results.
