50 COSTS OF PRODUCING SUGAR BEETS Table 20 summarizes the findings of the cost investigation con- cerning the relation between the yield of sugar beets per acre and the costs of production per acre and per ton in 1922. With an increase in the yield per acre, the general trend of acre costs is up- ward as would be expected, but the trend of net costs per ton inclu- sive of capital charges is downward. This holds true until an aver- age yield per farm of from 21 to 22 tons per acre is reached.
