manure is believed to be amply made up for with an increas- 
ing demand as fertilizer. 
The quality of Bean Cake, characterised with a high 
nutritive value, commends itself as material for manufae- 
ture of some wholesome, palatable food. Plainly, by 
improving the existing process of separating the oil from 
Beans, and by rationalizing the way to work upon the Bean 
residue, new higher utilities of Bean residue may be 
devised. Actually, in all Western countries, the ablest 
chemists have the subject under a concentrated study, and 
the triumphs of science in this direction are being published 
on Oceasion. 
The chemists have taken note of the protein in the 
Bean residue being the cheapest of its kind obtainable, and 
the manufacture of protein products on the base of the 
Bean res'due is being experimented upon energetically. 
In this new field, too. as science advances further, new 
uses for the Bean residue seem certain to be invented. 
Thus, the Bean residue will have its utility extended 
from fertilizer and cattle-feed to: food and industrial
