(1) Spor BusiNess IN BEANS Spot business in Beans outside the Exchanges may be subdivided into (a) on the river, (b) on the market, (c) in the osier bins, and (d) on the train. River Beans are mostly carried by junks on the river and are distiguished from railway shipments. River Beans are dealt in most extensively at Yingkou (Newchwang), Tiehling, Antung, Tungkiangkou, Sankiangkou, and Fafeng- kou coming next. Beans carted over to the market are classed Ttnder this head. During the produce season in winter, stocks are brought by the owners by carts to the nearest market, or by the retailers who have bought the stocks direct from the producers. On the Changchun or the Kaiyuan Market alone, daily arrivals are sometimes measured by 5.000 car- loads or thereabouts.
