shortened lunch period, but has rarely been added at the
close of the day. When it is not convenient to have five days
of equal length, there is a tendency to make the Friday work
schedule a little shorter than that of the other days. Some
companies, however, prefer to have five equal days, even
when they result in such unusual lengths as nine hours and
twelve minutes or nine hours and thirty-six minutes. Table?
reproduces the daily work schedules of 194 plants operating
on a five-day basis, and indicates the variety of daily work
schedules in effect.
