Clinker production for the eight months amounted to slightly less than 252,000,000 sacks. These statistics, prepared by Ernest F. Burchard, of United States Geological Survey, are based mainly on reports from producers of Portland cement and in part on estimated data. They indicate that the present demand for cement is greater than might be expected in comparison with that for other mineral commodities. The Bureau of Foreign and Domestic Commerce, Department of Commerce, reports that imports of hydraulic cement in July amounted to 18,816 sacks, valued at $9,562; the total for the first seven months of 1921 was 197,056 sacks, valued at $184,577.
