Then there will come a contest between this
Purpose and the fears, doubts and inertia of
the mind. Usually, the Purpose is worsted in
this contest. That is the most serious tragedy
in any man’s life, when he buries a dead
Purpose.
The aim of this book is to show how the
Purpose can overcome the fears, doubts and
inertia. ‘THE PURPOSE-WILL CAN BE MADE
STRONGER—that is the central thought in this
book.
The fact is that never before has it been as
difficult to strengthen the Purpose-will as it
is to-day. Why? Because of the flood of
news, distractions, amusements, etc., that
prevent a man from concentrating his thoughts
upon one thing and mobilizing all his powers
to accomplish a definite result.
In every country there is to-day a lack of
will-power—a spirit of apathy and non-
resistance. This is as evident in the United
States as it is in Europe.
