WHAT IS WILL-POWER?

crowd. We allow others to make our political
opinions for us. We allow others to entertain
us. We have mass-ideas. We follow the line
of least resistance. And all this means that our
will-power has become weak and instead of
steering our own course through the sea of
life we are drifting wherever the winds of the
day may happen to blow us.

It is clear that we must take some measure
of self-protection against this pressure of the
crowd. No man ever yet, outside of politics,
made a success of his own career by drifting.

Entertainment and motor car driving and
cinemas and the news of the day are all well
enough, but they must be kept in their place.
They must not take all of a man’s leisure, if he
is ambitious and wishes to accomplish any-
thing worth while.

Every ambitious man should have at least
one hour a day to himself. What for? To
strengthen his Purpose-will. To separate
himself from the crowd that is pushing him
about. To think of his own affairs. To study
the subject that he has chosen. To be active,
not passive. To be as far as it is possible for
him to be—creative.

Success in the business world comes onl
