© WILL-POWER IN BUSINESS
enables a man to become a leader in a crisis.
It is a combination of courage and will-
power and presence of mind. It enables a man
to step forward at the psychological moment
to do something which is likely to prove
greatly to his advantage.
This virtue is often found on the battlefield.
Often it is what makes a man deserving of the
V.C. But we do not find it very often
in business. We are too apt to hesitate, and
let the opportunity go by.

We say: ‘‘ Second thoughts are best.”
This is not always true. First thoughts are
often much better than second thoughts.
They are better because they enable you to
act quickly.
I once knew a very prosperous merchant
who used to say that he owed most of his
success to his ability to make up his mind in
a flash. He knew that very often to-day’s
opportunity is gone to-IMOrrow.
Most of us can remember incidents in our
business career, when we lost golden oppor-
tunities, all for lack of just a little courage at
the right moment. We lacked that quick
courage that makes a man a leader in his trade
or profession.
