Many young men, when they start out on
life’s way, look everywhere for a road marked
‘ No Risk.” Of course there is no such road.
If such a sign is found, it will not be true.
There is no absolute safety anywhere.
More money is made by taking risks than
by hiding in funk-holes. Some men never
realize this until they have spent twenty years
in a funk-hole.
There is an element of gambling in every
business enterprise. The thing is to overcome
the dangers, not to run away from them.
An Englishman in Honolulu was watching
an old native bathe. ‘‘Aren’t you afraid of the
sharks ? ”” he asked.

““ Well,” replied the old native, maybe
there is no shark. Maybe, if there is one, he
no see me. Maybe his belly full. He don’t
want me. Maybe, if he come for me, he miss
me. Me have plenty chances.”
That was a wise old native. He had bathed
all his life, and no shark had got him. He took
his chances.
