"THE MAN WHO IS UNBEATABLE

It is not hard to start something new with
enthusiasm. When it is new, it is interesting.
A new shop or factory is like a toy. But when
the novelty has worn off, when there is no
longer any gilt on the gingerbread, then comes
the test of Tenacity.

When a job consists of the same monotonous
thing, over and over again—that is what slows
us down and weakens our wills. We fail to see
that every business is a process that must be
kept going with constant initiative and the
utmost tenacity. Otherwise it begins to decay.

Our scientists tell us that life is a process.

Deprive the living cell of oxygen or food
and it dies and begins at once to go to pieces,”
says Professor Donnan. A living cell is like a
flame. It lives from minute to minute. There
is no such thing as permanent life.

The same fact is largely true of a business
firm. A business is not a permanent structure.
It is a process. It is better or worse from day to
day, according to its management. There is a
daily battle between life and death, or, as we
call it—profit and loss.

Many firms are full of the joy of life. They
make large profits and pay large salaries and
wages. And other firms are barely alive. The
flame of their life is only a feeble flicker.
