They have not been welded together. There
are a number of conflicting will-powers. There
is no strong compelling personality in control,
and the large army of employees is muddling
along like a mob.
Several years ago, some quarrymen in
Warwickshire dug up the petrified skeleton of
a Plesiosaurus. It roamed about in England
100,000,000 .years ago.
It was thirty-three feet long, with a great
body like a whale, but it had only a half-pound
brain. That is why its tribe became extinct.
It had a vast amalgamation of flesh, and not
enough brain. It was big, but it was not
unbeatable.
Over and over again, it has been proved
that dwarfs can compete with giants in the
business world. Other things being equal, the
big company will win. Size is a great advantage.
But it is not nearly as important as efficiency
and will-power.
A small firm has some advantages, too, and
if it makes the most of these it can grow and
prosper. It should not regard itself as being
outclassed.
It can be quick. It is not managed by
committees. It can act while a big company is
