Thousands of young people (and a few older
ones) make a failure of their lives because they
do not know the meaning of the word
‘“ Opportunity.”
The dictionary meaning of ‘‘ Opportunity ”’
is not clear. It says—‘‘a fit, convenient, or
favourable time.” This is not a good definition.
It gives people the wrong impression.
Many people think that an opportunity is
something that comes once in a while. Also,
they think that it comes to you like a big red
bus, with OPPORTUNITY marked on it in big
letters. Standing by the roadside, waiting for
the opportunity bus—that is the way thousands
of people waste their lives.
Now, this is a wrong idea, as every successful
person knows. Opportunities do not come to
you like a bus and offer you a seat for a pleasant
ride. They are not marked Opportunity.
Sometimes they are marked Illness, Bad Debt,
Trouble, Danger, Keep Off.
An opportunity is not so much a thing that
comes to you as the idea of doing something
that springs up in your own mind. An oppor-
tunity is a mental thing. It is inside of you,
not outside.
It is as mental as sight or hearing. That is
