PURPOSE-WILL OF AN INVENTOR

He snatched the clock up and ran to a little
workshop near by. He took the clock to pieces
and made another one exactly like it, but as
small as a watch.

It ran. It kept good time. Then he made
1,000 of them. He sold them. He made
10,000 more and sold them by post. That was
in 18q2.
The name of the young mechanic was
Robert H. Ingersoll. That is how he invented
his famous ‘‘ Dollar Watch.” To-day these
watches are still being made at the rate of
25,000 a day. Ingersoll first noticed a clock.
Then he thought about it. Then he formed a
Purpose which became his will. That is the
process that creates every success.
About twenty-five years ago there was a
certain young man who had a job in a factory.
There was very heavy machinery in this
factory, which jarred the whole building.
The young man was not very robust. He
was a frail lad, almost an invalid, and he did
not like the jar of the machinery.
One day he brought a rubber mat to the
factory, and stood on it. At once he found a
relief. He found that the jar did not annoy him
when he stood on the mat.
