making of great machines. And he developed

spite of all manner of obstacles.
There are three other types of men who can
rightfully be classed among inventors, as they
achieve their successes by observation, by
creative thought, by concentration and will-
power. They are the Scientists, Detectives,
and Business Experts.
The tasks of these three are very much alike
and very much like the task of the inventor.
They are all vivid with interest because they
deal with the unknown—with problems and
mysteries.
Scientists, Detectives, and Business Experts,
are on a search to find something. Their work
is like a game. A crosswords puzzle is childish
compared with the day’s work of these
searchers.
Tue Scientist. He is always doing some-
thing new—making experiments. He is finding
out the laws of Nature. He is full of hope. At

will make him famous and perhaps rich. His
mind is kept alert. He is full of the joy of life.
Every day is a new day, all too short for what
he wants to do in it.
