are several small tidal engines. On a small
scale, the problem has been solved, but we
are now waiting for a Nasmyth who will show
us how to make a great tidal engine and solve
the problem of cheaper power.
(7) A Crop-DRYING MACHINE. There is
now a crop-drying machine. It will reduce the
time of the drying process from two days to
one hour. This will make the farmer indepen-
dent of the weather when he is gathering in his
crops. He can dry his hay and his corn in a
hot-air furnace.
(8) A Loom WITHOUT A SHUTTLE. There is a
new shuttleless loom. This may revolutionize
weaving. It has been in operation for more
than a year. It may completely change our
process of making cloth.
(9) NEw uses For Woop. Sawdust and
shavings and small pieces of wood are now
being turned into linoleum, tobacco pipes,
dynamite, wallpaper and phonograph records.
Wood can now be changed not only into paper
but into artificial silk.
(10) New Uses oF Gas. A new kind of
concrete is now being used in Germany. Gas
is being blown into it to make it lighter. A
mass of concrete is filled with pores, which
