AMBITION PLUS WILL-POWER

far as you can. Don’t yield to the pressures
that are destroying your happiness and your
self-development. Don’t be saddled and bitted
and driven. Go your own way. What are you
afraid of ?
This does not mean that you are to chuck
up your job. It means that you are to be
bigger than your job. A job is a ladder. Use
it to climb up. Make the most of it.
Surprise your employer. Think. Improve.
That will surprise him.
How to be free! That is what young people
want, and some of them are going about it the
right way, and some the wrong way. The right
way is to be self-governing—to make up your
own mind—to find a better way to do a job—
to have a plan of free living that will make you
wiser and richer and happier. The wrong way
is to drift with the crowd in work and in
pleasure, and become one more automaton.
Find out your own abilities. It is said that
when Solomon’s Temple was built, the various
parts of it were made down in the valley.
Then they were carried to the hill-top and put
in place. At the end one piece was left in the
valley, and for a time the builders could not
find the place to put it. Yet if it had been left
out, the Temple would have been imperfect.
