WILL-POWER IN BUSINESS )

If a young man wants to become more
ambitious, he can do so by following these
two simple rules :

(1) Learn something new every day.

(2) Do something better every day.
So, as you can see, ambition is a daily pro-
cess, and not merely wishing that you were the
Duke of Westminster. It is the determination
to make the best possible use of your powers
and opportunities. It means moving ahead,
against resistance, to a certain goal.
Some men who climb high do not consciously
have any ambition at all. They only work hard
at the job of the day. They climb high before
they realize their own strength and ability.
Caruso, the greatest of all tenors, once said,
at the close of his life—‘‘ My poverty was my
opportunity. It was not ambition. I knew
nothing about ambition. I took the first job
that offered. I sang the little parts. I took the
little pay. It was work—work—work ! That
is all T knew about ambition.
‘“ The other fellows who started with me—
they thought they had ambition. They would
not sing the little parts. They would not take
the little pay. I did. I embraced the oppor-
tunity that my poverty made.”
