(4) CorLeGes. Here we learn neither
Truth nor Speed, but we do learn the value
of Staff Training. A college teaches us to
listen and to read—two priceless things that
most business men do not appreciate. The one
great benefit that college gives a man is that it
broadens him out and teaches him that personal
experience is not everything.
(5) Hoters. A well-run hotel, such as
those in Switzerland, for instance, shows us the
importance of personal service. How to wait
on people quickly and pleasantly—that is what
a good hotel can teach us. How to make a
stranger feel at home ! Every good hotel does
that, but very few of our shops do. Hospi-
tality ! Thatis a bigger word than Salesmanship
if we only knew it ; and we can learn it from
any well-managed hotel.
(6) Porrtics. Here, certainly, we do not
learn Truth nor Efficiency, but we do learn
how to advertise—how to influence the mass
