They are spending twice too much on their
correspondence. Why ? Because it is pleasant
and easy to sit and dictate letters to a nice
typist. They do all the routine things, because
routine is easy. It does not require thought.
They do to-day what they did yesterday, like
clockwork figures.
Ask one of these men on ‘‘ Easy Street”
why he does not set out to find 2,000 new
customers, and he looks at you vaguely, and
with a little resentment. He tells you that it
will increase expenses, which is not true. It
will not increase the PERCENTAGE of expense.
He tells you there are ¢‘ difficulties,” as though
that were a good reason. The path to more
net profit is always through difficulties.
He is likely to blame the incompetence of
his employees. Every man on ‘‘ Easy Street ”
has his mouth full of blame. He refuses to face
the fact that one of his first duties is to teach
and train his employees.

The fact is, that he does not want to give up
his cushions. Few men do, unless their wives
make them. We are the lazy sex. Every man
who follows the line of least resistance is
living on ‘‘ Easy Street.” He should move to
‘“ Energy Road.” The men who are living on
‘“ Energy Road ” are prospering. They are
