strenuous Unionists in Great Britain, in the Press
and on the platform, have now joined in urging an
immediate settlement of the Irish question,
The response to the appeal of the Irish Party was
overwhelming in its unanimity and enthusiasm: of
the strenuous support of the over seas dominions
there had been already abundant proof. Every self-
governing Colony in the Empire had proclaimed
itself in favour of Irish Home Rule. South Africa,

interested in the peace and contentment of al] parts of the
Empire, and we desire to see this long-standing grievance
at the very heart of the Empire removed.”

Dominions beyond the seas of the armed resistance
of the Ulster minority to Home Rule :—
“ Honourable Members will recollect,” said Senator
Stewart, “that just prior to the outbreak of the war there
was some hope that Ireland would be granted a measure of
Home Rule. At that particular time, we found one very
prominent member of the British Parliament in open re-
bellion against the Government. I refer to Sir Edward</div>
