FOREWORD.

The following papers were read at the Half-yearly Meeting
of the Central Committee of Women’s Church Work, June 10th,
1915. They were intended to serve as a basis for discussion
by groups of women in various centres, and with that obiect
in view, and by the unanimous wish of the Central Committee.
thev are now issued.

If these papers dealing with the Home, the Church, the
Nation, and the Spiritual foundation on which all reconstruction
must rest are to be adequate in their general application, they
must first be interpreted in an individual sense. The call of
God to a restored life and service may be heard by every
woman now. That this may be so the spirit of prayer which
listens as well as intercedes needs to be spread among us. It
is suggested that in conjunction with the use of these papers
for discussion, many small groups of women may gather together
in a simple manner for corporate prayer, silent or spoken, to
seek spiritual strength to fulfil the purposes of God in a time
when we have freshly learned our own weakness.
