36 REPORT ON COOPERATION IN AMERICAN EXPORT TRADE.

By far the most important foreign market is the United States, to
which approximately one-half of the total exports go. The following
 table, obtained from the Potash Syndicate, shows the total production,
 in metric tons, of potash salts in Germany for the years
1910 to 1913, inclusive, and the total quantity of potash exported to
the United States in these yvears.t

Next to the United States in order of importance as foreign markets,
 Jortly because of their availability as reshipping centers, are
the Netherlands, Austria-Hungary, Russia, France, and Sweden.
Below are given the exports in metric tons from 1912 (the first year
in which official export statistics are available for potash as now
classified) to the first six months of 1914.
