BEARINGS WITH ABNORMAL SET oF BALLS (WITHIN THE NORMAL SERIES).

For such bearings it fs necessary first to look up the series to which the
bearing sought belongs, as regards full number of balls and size of balls—that
Is, the series which, with a full complement of balls, contains the same. or if
not existing, a smaller number of balls, with the same, or if not existing, the
next larger diameter of balls. In the series found the list price of the standard
bearing with the same or the next larger outside diameter of balls is considered
as the basic price of the abnormal bearing wanted. To these basic prices the
additions named in the unit table are then furthermore added in their entirety
(1. e., not on individual parts as under 1a and 1b).
Example.

Wanted, the price of 2 abnormal bearings with abnormal set of balls with
cage of normal construction:
47X112X30 with 15 balls 19/32’,
Solution.

The full number of balls is 16: the size of balls is 19/32’ rr

We first look for the 19/32’ ball size in the list, or, if it does not exist, we
take the next higher one, i. e, 5/8’; in the F. & S. catalogue we, for instance,
do not find 19/32’’ balls in the race series A, B, C. We then look for the next
larger ball diameter, 5/8'/, equal to 22 full balls. This series must not be used,
however, because the bearing A85, with a full complement of balls, contains
more balls (22) than the one wanted (16) for the number of balls must be
the same or smaller. Series B under B45 (No. 309) has 13 5/8’ balls, and
therefore meets the two requirements, that the number of balls should be the
same or smaller and the diameter of the balls the same or larger, The bearing
wanted, therefore, with 15 balls 19/82’ lies in series B of Fichtel & Sachs.
Having thus seen that the abnormal bearing wanted belongs to the series
B of F. & 8., we figure out the diameter of the bearing to be computed with
the measurements existing in this series.
The bearing to be figured out has the dimensions of 47 by 112 by 30. In the
B series ascertained made by F. & S. the nearest larger outside diameter—the
same diameter does not exist—is 120 mm. in bearing B55 (No. 311). The
bearing to be computed must therefore be quoted as follows:

Marks.
List price of B55 (No. 811) _______________.________ ____ 17.50
Plus addition for making 1-2 as per unit table. 50 per cent eee. 8.75

The bearing wanted therefore costs, per bearing gross where 1 or 2
bearings are shipped _______________~ ________ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ 26. 25
The discount to which the buyer is entitled is only deducted after figuring
the additions. t .
If a firm changes its standard measurements with reference to the set of
balls, it has to immediately make known these changes to the convention bureau
for transmittal to the members.
Quotations on abnormal bearings which can be proven to be in effect remain
valid without any effect on a possible change in the provisions of the convention
for computing such bearings for a term of three months after making the
quotation. The binding term can be extended to a full year at the written re-27241°—pT
