Of the 701 members of the Management Committees of these Societies 36'5 per cent, were employees, 42'4 per cent, other individuals, and 21'1 per cent, representatives of Retail (Store) Societies, etc., holding shares in these Productive Societies. It may be added that as regards the proportion of the production which was under the direct control of the employees, the returns received by the Department show that in 19 Societies (with 37‘2 per cent, of the total sales of the 78 Societies) the employees were not represented on the Managing Committees; in 39 Societies (with 27'2 per cent, of the sales) some of the Committee-men, but less than a majority, were employees; while in 20 Societies (with 35-6 per cent, of the total sales of the 78 Societies) employees formed the majority of the Managing Committee.
