HISTORY: Incorporated under laws of Maryland, Jan. 15, 1929. 
BUSINESS: Company operates directly through subsidiaries, 1,409 grocery 
stores, 408 of which include meat markets. The chain includes 23 warehouses, 5 
bakeries, 2 creameries, 6 wholesale grocery houses and one coffee and spice 
wholesale house. The operations are conducted in California, Arizona, Washing- 
ton, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming and Nebraska. 
On the basis of total volume in 1929, the company ranks second among the gro- 
cery chains west of the Mississippi River.

Spokane and Seattle, Wash. 
Ntone’s Cash Stores, Ine.—29 grocery stores and 3 meat markets located in Cali- 
fornia, Idaho, Oregon and Washington. 
Consolidated Stores, Inc.—63 grocery stores in Oregon and Washington, and a 
warehouse at Portland, Ore. 
LaGrande Grocery Co.—9 grocery stores located in Oregon and a warehouse at 
LaGrande, Ore. 
Western Piggly Wiggly Ce.—51 grocery stores, 15 of which included meat mar- 
kets, located in Idaho and Washington, and a warehouse at Spokane, Wash. 
MiancLean Bros. Ine.—21 grocery stores located in the City of Tacoma, Wash., and 
vicinity, and a warehouse at Tacoma, Wash. 
Eagle Stores, Ime.—37 grocery stores and a warehouse in the City of Portland, 
Oregon. 
Piggly Wiggly Co. of San Joaquin Valley—10 grocery stores, 4 meat markets, 1 
warehouse and 1 bakery in Stockton, Calif., and vicinity. 
Von's, Inc.—87 grocery stores and 1 warehouse in Los Angeles and vicinity. 
E. A. Morrison, Inc.— (Subsidiary, Crown Emporium)—85 grocery stores, includ- 
ing 31 meat markets, 7 delicatessen stores and 1 bakery shop, in Los An- 
geles, Pasadena and vicinities. 
Mutual Stores, Inc.—281 grocery stores, 48 meat markets and 17 delicatessen 
stores in San Francisco and vicinity. Also operated bakeries in Oakland and 
San Francisco, as well as 2 warehouses, a creamery and coffee roasting 
plants. 
Pigely Wiggly Puget Sound Co.—(Subsidiary, Tacoma Piggly Wiggly Co.)—57 
grocery stores and 5 meat markets in Seattle, Tacoma and vicinities, also 
two warehouses. 
Heller’'s—42 stores, one bakery and one warehouse, in San Diego, Calif. 
Piggly Wiggly Laws Co.—7 grocery stores, 4 meat markets and 1 warehouse in 
Modesto, Calif., and vicinity. 
Economic Food Co.—(Subsidiary, Piggly Wiggly Kern Co.,Inc.)—43 grocery 
stores, 4 meat markets and 1 warehouse in Fresno, Calif.,, and vicinity. 
Bay Cities Mercantile Co.—49 grocery stores, 27 meat markets and 1 warehouse 
in Los Angeles and vicinity. 
Bavless Stores, Ine.—9 grocery stores in Phoenix, Ariz, and vicinity, all of which 
had meat and vegetable departments; 3 had drug departments and 1 a deli- 
catessen; also operated 1 warehouse. 
Dwight Edwards Co.—Wholesale eoffee roasting business in Portland, Ore. as 
well as a business of importing and manufacturing teas, spices, etc. 
Ham-Jackson Co.—Conducted a printing plant in Portland, Ore. 
The Snodgrass Food Co.—(Subsidiaries, the J. F. Sherman Mercantile Co. and 
the T. R. Coulson Fruit & Produce Co.)—43 grocery stores, 40 meat markets 
and 5 warehouses in Colorado and New Mexico and a bakery in Colorado. 
Continental Food Stores, Inc.— (Subsidiary, the Piggly Wiggly Co. of San Fran- 
cisco including Coast Piggly Wiggly Co.)—164 stores and 9 markets in Colo- 
rado, California, Wyoming, Nebraska and New Mexico; also 4 warehouses
