PART VI.
(c) That the programme of the work to be adopted should be
drafted by the staff of the centre chosen for the major
investigations.
(d) That this programme should be circulated to the Departments
of Agriculture in other Cotton growing areas, with a view to
complementary work being undertaken by them.
GENERAL ENTOMOLOGY AND MYCOLOGY.
9. That much more work should be done by Fntomologists in
regard to the Pheidole ant, and that the question of baits and the
destruction of nests is worthy of close investigation. As this ant was
of great importance in Kenya, it was recommended that a thorough
investigation should be undertaken in Kenya.
10. That the Entomologists of Kenya and Uganda should meet
and discuss the question of preventing the spread of Stephanoderes
hampei into Kenya after visiting Coffee areas to the east and west of
Mount Elgon.
11. That the conditions and problems in South Africa are so
entirely different from those in tropical East African Colonies that the
problem of the control of Cut-worm is one for solution in the various
territories concerned.
12. (a) That each participating territory should arrange to
prepare lists of injurious insects and fungoid diseases, with
their food plants and status as pests. and to interchange such
lists.
(b) That, in order that the lists may be uniform, they should be
compiled in the following form: (a) Name, (b) reference to
original description, (¢) distribution, (d) food plants and
alternative hosts, (e) status as a pest, (f) predators and
parasites, (g) further notes.
(¢) That the Imperial Bureau of Entomology and Imperial
Bureau of Mycology in London should be approached with a
view to the compilation, classification and publication of the
lists by them.
18. That each Department of Agriculture of South and East
African Territories should undertake to notify, without delay, every
other such Department of the presence of a new disease or pest
considered to be of economic importance.
14. That a study should be made of the insecticidal properties of
native plants.
15. That uniform legislation should apply to importation of
plants and seeds into Kenya and Uganda.
