THE STORY OF ARTIFICIAL SILK
wear and hosiery. It is now being used for
plushes, velvets, motor rugs, pram covers,
curtains and upholstery.
By an ingenious process, the filaments are
spun hollow. These little tubular filaments
are lighter, bulkier and warmer than other
Artificial Silk filaments. They are more
like wool. They have 50 per cent. more
covering power than the solid filaments.
And they rustle like real silk. There seems
to be a great future, not yet realized, for these
hollow yarns. They will be in great demand
in cold countries,
Eventually—in the very near future—Arti-
ficial Silk will be used in the making of
clothes for men. Bradford does not think SO,
but Bradford cannot stand out against the
victorious march of this new textile.
Artificial Silk is now being used for men’s
ties, socks, pyjamas, shirts, etc. Why not
for suits and overcoats ? The general belief
is at present that a suit made of wool and
Artificial Silk, half and half, would not hold
its shape ; but this is only a theory.
“ There is no reason why a standard suit
of clothes could not be made as cheaply as
