Wenn nun aber zwischen der Menge des vorhan denen oder im Uinlaui beiindlichen Geldes und dem allgemeinen Stande der Waarenpreise keinerlei unmittel barer oder nothwendiger Zusammenhang besteht (ausser and Banking,: ,,iVo doubl, if the internal transactions of the country increase, or if the prices of commodities rise, a larger amount of circulating medium, whether purely me tallic, or mixed of paper and coin, will be required to con duct the exchanges, and thus, though an increased circulation would not be called into existence, as a cause to produce higher pri ces, it would follow as the effect or consequence of higher prices.^'“ Und Tooke, Of the Bank Charter Act of 1844, Lon don 1856 (Siehe auch Geschichte der Preise, IL Bd. p. 623) p. 178; ,,The prices of commodities do not depend upon the quantity of money indicated by the amount of bank notes, nor upon the amount of the whole of the circulating medium', but, on the contrary, the amount of the circulating medium, is the consequence of prices/* Indess gibt es wiederum andere Stellen, aus denen hervor geht, dass selbst Tooke die Theorie vom Einfluss der Menge des im Umlaufe befindlichen Geldes auf den Werth des Geldes oder den allgemeinen Stand der Waarenpreise noch nicht ganz über wunden hat. Siehe Geschichte der Preise I., p. 61: ,,Eine ver schlechterte Münze, oder die einem Schlagschatze unterworfen ist, ohne eine bestimmte Regel für den im Umlaufe befind lichen G esamm tbe t r ii g, kann natürlich nicht denselben Tauschwerth haben, wie vollwichtige Münze oder wie hei einem streng durchgeführten Prinzip der Reschrän- kung/* Ferner was er über inconvertibles Staatspapiergeld sagt.
