~ DEVELOPMENT BY WILL-POWER 
float your own little canoe on—that is what it 
amounts to. 
Consequently, every Sales Manager must 
learn from politics how to create and use 
Public Opinion. The same arts that enable a 
man to become Prime Minister, would also 
enable him to sell more goods. 
(7) Sport. Here we learn courage, endu- 
rance, fair play, co-operation, enthusiasm and 
many other things. Sport teaches us to take 
risks—to be good losers and quiet winners— 
to play the game of business hard and fair. 
The business man who shuts himself out 
of Sport will never know what he is losing. He 
is losing the joy of life, very largely. Se is 
deliberately making himself old. He is 
denaturing himself. He is trying his best to be 
a machine and not a man. Worst of all, he is 
losing the love and loyalty of his own family 
and his own employees. 
No loss or disaster ever breaks a man who 
has the Spirit of Sport. It only bends him, and 
he springs up again. No true sportsman ever 
commits suicide—did you ever think of that ? 
No !—he says—*‘ better luck next time,” and 
starts again. 
So, as you can see, there are plenty of things
