WILL-POWER IN BUSINESS to Australia. Miss M. E. Foster was unbeat- able when she won the King’s Prize for rifle shooting at Bisley, against the two hundred best marksmen in the British Army. Mrs. Victor Bruce was unbeatable when she created twenty-four world records in motoring and motor-boating. And Katherine Trevelyan was unbeatable when she was the first to climb one of the highest mountains in Canada. There is no sex in courage nor in will-power, any more than there is in literature or art. And to-day, after centuries of restraint, women are having a fair chance to show what they can do. For centuries courage was regarded as a military virtue. Civilians were not supposed to be courageous. But our experience in the Great War has completely destroyed this delusion. The civilian soldiers were as brave as the professionals. The list of V.C.’s proves that courage, like gold, is where you find it. It springs up here, there and everywhere. We are learning that it is a business virtue. It can prevent bankruptcies as well as win battles. It can be used to make a fortune as well as build up an Empire.
