HISTORY: Incorporated under laws of Maryland, Nov. 21, 1924, as a holding 
company. Owns 999% of capital stock of Long-Bell Lumber Co. incorporated in 
Missouri in 1884. Business started as R. A. Long & Co. in 1875. 
BUSINESS: Company, through its operating subsidiary, is one of the largest 
producers of lumber and lumber products in the world. Operates in Washing- 
ton and Oregon. Douglas fir, California white pine, southern yellow pine and 
hardwood. 
PROPERTY: Company owns 484.524 acres of timber lands, containing more than 
10,000.000,000 feet. It owns approximately 600,000 acres of logged-off lands; 9 
sawmill plants with 2,850,000 daily capacity; 116 retail lumber yards; 300 miles 
of railroad. 
LONGVIEW: In 1922 company bought large tracts of timber in Cowlitz County, 
Washington, and laid out and developed the city of Longview, at junction of 
Columbia and Cowlitz rivers, as one of the few “planned” cities in the world. 
City was laid out primarily for the company's employes. In 1930 the population 
was more than 10,000, with diversified industries
