WASHINGON WATER POWER COMPANY 
GENERAL OFFICE: Spokane, Wash. 
CONTROL: By American Power & Light Co. 
HISTORY: Incorporated under laws of Washington, 1889. 
BUSINESS: Company's system (including the properties of its subsidiaries and 
the properties in Coeur d'Alene and Lewiston, Idaho, and 15 other communities 
in Idaho and Washington) supplies directly or indirectly electric power and light 
service in 63 communities in eastern Washington and 30 communities in northern 
Idaho. The city of Spokane and surrounding districts, the Coeur d’Alene mining 
section of Idaho and extensive electrically irrigated agricultural districts are in- 
cluded in the territory served. Water is supplied to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and 
six other communities in Idaho and Washington, and steam heat in Spokane, 
Wash. The total population of the territory served is estimated at 233,000. 
Company's system serves 61,800 power and light customers. Power is sup- 
plied to a wide diversity of industries among which are paper, lumber, cement 
and flour mills, irrigation systems, mines, and smelting and electrolytic zinc re- 
duction works, in addition to other public utilities. Company supplies through a 
subsidiary all the power required for the operation of 130 miles of electrified line 
of the C., M., St. P. & Pac. Ry. Co. Company has an agreement with the Great 
Northern Ry. whereby the latter agrees to purchase power from: the Company 
for the operation of its rail lines, when and if electrified before 1950, east from 
Wenatchee, Wash., and as far as Troy, Mont.. the first section of electrified rail- 
road to be not less than 70 miles. 
SUBSIDIARIES: Intermountain Power Co. and Okanogan Valley Power Co., own- 
ing a power plant and transmission and distribution systems; Chelan Electric 
Co., owning a power plant at Chelan Falls in central Washington ad having 
storage rights on Lake Chelan; and Spokane United Railways and Spokane Cen- 
tral Heating Co., which supply, respectively. transportation servira and steam 
heat in the city of Spokane, Wash. 
PROPERTY: Coeur d'Alene lake, situated in Idaho, about 30 miles east of Spo- 
kane, constitutes the primary storage reservoir for the Company's six plants on 
the Spokane river. This storage is available during the low water and peak 
periods and allows a considerable increase in flow of the river during such 
periods
