3.—Payment of Wages. 1. All work which has not been expressly undertaken on piece-rates must be executed at the hourly wage agreed upon. 2. Overtime and Sunday work are paid for at the rate of time and a quarter. 3. Night work is paid at the rate of time and a half should it be carried out by the day staff. If a special night shift is arranged then 50 pfennige (6d.) will be paid per night in addition to the ordinary time or piece rate. Overtime is reckoned from 6 to 10 p.m., and any work done during the dinner hour is paid at overtime rates. Night work begins at 10 p.m. and ends at 6 a.m. Overtime shall not be worked as a rule on Mondays and Saturdays. 3. In calculating wages only work done up to Wednesday shall be included in the week’s reckoning. In the case of piece-work which is either not finished or has not been taken over, an advance shall be given on pay days according to the work done as estimated by the foreman. Should several workmen be engaged on the same job, their individual shares shall be reckoned according to the hours worked and the hourly rate of each man. 4. All claims to piece payment are forfeited should a workman abandon the job he is engaged on before its completion, or be dismissed under the provisions of these factory rules. In such a case the time rate only will be paid. 5. Wages shall be paid in cash every Saturday, unless this happens to be a holiday, when they shall be paid the day before. The following deductions may be made from the wages, viz., contributions to the Sickness Funds and for Insurance against old age and invalidity, fines, “subs,” and any other amounts which, according to section 115 of the Imperial Industrial Code, may be deducted from the wages. 6. On receiving his wages the workman must satisfy himself forthwith that the amount is accurate; and any complaints he may have to make must be stated at once, as they cannot be considered afterwards. 7. Complaints as to the accuracy of the computation of earnings shall be made to the foreman in charge before noon of the following work-day. Later complaints can only be considered if the workman, owing to absence or sickness, has been hindered from raising them at the proper time. 8. If owing to scarcity of work, or interruptions to work, certain shifts have to be stopped, or the ordinary working hours reduced, the workman shall have no claim to wages for loss of time, nor can a workman claim wages for lost time when he has been hindered at his work from some cause for which he is responsible, even when the delay is excusable and is not of long duration. 4.—Notice on determining an Engagement. 1. No notice is necessary on either side ; on the contrary, an engagement can be terminated by either party at any time. 2. A demand or certificate as to the character and duration of his work shall be given to every workman who leaves under regular circumstances, and if he desiresi it, this certificate shall extend to his behaviour and capacity. II.—Regulations for Municipal Employees at Mannheim. 1 —Admission into Municipal Employment. § I- These Working Regulations are to be regarded as an agreement concluded between the municipality of Mannheim and the individual worker. § 2. As a rule only those workpeople shall be taken into the employ of the municipality who are qualified for their special work and are physically strong and healthy. Such workpeople must supply, on demand, proof that they have hitherto had a good reputation and left their last post without infringement of any contract. § 3. Only the heads of departments or officers of control expressly empowered by them are authorised to take workers into the employ of the municipality. § 4- On entering the municipal employ a workman for whom insurance is compulsory shall produce his receipt for insurance against old age and invalidity, and in requisite cases the receipts relating to insurance against sickness ; if he is still a minor he shall also show his labour-book.
