MACARONI WHEAT IN FOREIGN MARKETS.

To Consular Officers of the United States in Europe,
Northern Africa, and the Argentine Republic.
GENTLEMEN: In a letter dated the 19th instant, the Department
of Commerce and Labor calls attention to the large crop of macaroni
wheat which it is estimated will be harvested in this country this
year. It is impossible for the few milling establishments to work it
all into macaroni and other food products, and it will be necessary
to export large quantities of it for a considerable time to come.
Owing to thehigh dutieslevied on American flourin foreign countries
it is doubtful whether this macaroni wheat can be exported in the
shape of flour,
You are instructed to report what opportunities exist in your
districts for marketing wheat suitable for the manufacture of macaroni.
 This information should be obtained as promptly as possible
in order to give opportunity to find markets for the crop of the presentyear,
 which the Department of Agriculture estimates at 10,000,000
bushels.
