Table 20 shows that in the groups having the smallest net sales
(Groups I and V) the proportionate costs were higher and the profits
consequently smaller than in the other groups. In the grouping by
amount of net sales, from the groups with the smallest to those wit
the broet it is noticeable that the percentage for raw materials de-
creased from 60.33 to 55.29 and that this accounted principally for
the decrease in the percentage of the cost of manufacturing and selling
from 95.77 to 90.75, and for the increase in the percentage of manu-
facturing profit, from 4.96 to 8.02.
Tables 21 and 22 give the same information as the two preceding
tables for establishments in and outside New York City, respectively,
in each case grouped according to the amounts of their net sales.
