Prices at Mannheim, as in South German towns generally, are very high.
Taking prices at Berlin as 100, the index number for meat at Mannheim is 110,
for other food 108, and for coal 115, the general level of prices as a whole being
indicated by 109. The index number for rent and prices combined is the same
as for Berlin, viz., 100, a figure which is exceeded by Stuttgart alone of the 33
towns included in the present inquiry.
