as for a big show. When pigs are sold by mail orders in response
to advertising in agricultural journals or newspapers, prepare the
pigs for shipment by washing and dressing the hair well before
they go. An important point in selling pigs is to immunize them
for life soon after weaning so that buyers will be certain of securing
pigs immune from cholera. When pigs are to be shipped make

crates of good material and give them a coat of paint. Secure rules
from the local county agent or from a veterinarian or write to the
state veterinarian for health rules regarding shipment of animals.

Selecting Gilts to Save.—Every permanent breeder should
select some gilts from the best mothers with which to build up his
own herd. These should be marked and removed from the rest
before buyers are to come. Save enough gilts to replace the culled
