In Bosnia a sandy limestone called ,,Bihacit” is found, which is very similar
in quality when cut to the French ,,Savoniérés” stone.
XII. Asphalt stone
1.900 tons.
This is found chiefly in Dalmatia, and in smaller amounts in Montenegro
and Serbia. Its exploitation at present is confined to the district of Paklin near
Vrgorac in Dalmatia, where it has been worked since the year 1754. It contains
13,359, of bitumen.
The extraction of the asphalt since the war only began in 1924, when the
output was 97 tons, and increased the next year to 286 tons. It is worked only in
Dalmatia.
XIII. Salt
Salt is obtained from saliferous and sea water. The chief salt springs are in
Bosnia at Tuzla, where salt water is pumped from a depth of 300 to 400 metres.
The Solvay factories at Lukavac have salt water brought to them directly in pipes.
