and writing ; reel paper, cigarette paper, glazed, packing, drawing paper etc. Fair
quantities of wadding are made from cellulose. Since home consumption does not,
exceed 1.500 truckloads, there is ample opportunity for export.
The six cardboard factories, with their capacity of 8.000 tons a year make
more than enough for home supplies.
Articles made of paper are produced in over 80 factories of all sizes.
The Metallurgic Industry
The are two works for the smelting of pig iron from iron ore which are
able to produce a maximum of 57.000 tons a year. This however they have not
achieved since the war. The greatest output since 1918 was 24.457 tons in 1923.
The heavy iron industry, represented by 4 works for the manufacture of
pig and cast iron are able, in their 11 Martin, 3 smelting, and 3 Pudlar furnaces
to produce annually 137.500 tons of cast iron in 250 working days.
They possess other machines for further manufacture of the iron.
The products exported are rolled and sheet iron and various special kinds
of steel which have a world reputation.
The iron foundries at Vare§ have a ‘capacity of about 700 truckloads
annually. Their products are pipes, supports, stoves etc. Besides the Vare$ works
there are about 35 other foundries of iron and other metals which can supply all
the demand for all iron ware to a weight of 50 kgs, and for cast iron pipes.
Lamps, and fittings for windows and doors and for water installations ete.
in all sizes are made for export.
The manufacture of pipes, wire and sheet iron, of copper and copper alloys,
and of aluminium, is still only in its beginning. Copper vessels however are made
in the country in fairly larce quantities.
Machinery, Electro-Technical Goods and Vehicles
This is an industry which is only just beginning to develop.
Three factories, which make cables for electricity installations, have a
capacity of 10 million metres a year which is sufficient for the national supply.
Electrodes for electric stoves are manufactured to an amount of 700 trucks
a year. The quality is excellent. Most are exported.
Export was:
Tons Dinars
5.293 26,321.115
4.781 + 22,201.731
The electric bulb manufacture now exceeds home requirements and export
is now beginning.
Electric transformers, of 1.000 kilowatt ampers and 35.000 volts transfer
accumulators, dynamo machines and electric motors up to 50 hp are also made
in the country.
