The development of the merchant shipping began only in 1921, after the
signature of the Trumbié-Bertolini agreement concerning the division of the mer-

chant fleet of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. By that agreement this Kingdom
received 100.000 reg. gross tonnage in small ships, most of which were worn, old,
and out of use. Since 1921 the merchant fleet has grown as follows:
